Hi! My name is Madeleine Gilborne.
I work as Alfa Laval’s business development
manager for clean technologies.
I have been working at Alfa Laval for about 6 years.
I joined because I was so inspired by
how our technologies contribute to
a more sustainable world.
In particular, the untapped potential that
exists in so many industries
and also how our technologies enable the transition
to clean energy and the circular economy.
Climate change and decarbonization represent
one of the greatest challenges of our time.
But it’s important to be aware that
this challenge is a dual one.
We have an increasing energy demand
at the same time as we need
to reduce the world’s carbon dioxide emissions.
And we are far away from where we need to be.
In order to be in line with the Paris Agreement
we have to have to have a rapid transformation and
reduce the world’s carbon dioxide emissions.
The other challenge we have today is that we
live in a “take, make and waste” society.
We live in a linear economy. Products are
used and then thrown away.
It means our scarce natural resources are
not being taken into consideration.
We need to move to a circular economy, where the products
are designed to eliminate waste and pollution.
We need to live in a world where nothing goes to waste, and
we take care of all resources in the most efficient way.
That is a circular economy.
Alfa Laval is world-leading in heat transfer
and separation technologies.
These technologies enable us to save energy and
reduce emissions in a wide range of different
processes around the world.
They also enable us to accelerate the transition to
both clean energy and the circular economy.
One of the main contributors to the Paris
Agreement is energy efficiency.
It counts for more than 40%
of the savings.
Alfa Laval is the world leader in plate heat
exchanger technologies that enable
us to save energy and reduce
carbon emissions.
Did you know that every year the heat exchangers
we install save 50 GW of energy?
That’s the same energy that’s required to
heat 10 million homes in Europe.
Not only are our technologies saving energy. We are also
enabling the transition to a clean energy future.
Together with our customer and partners, we
are finding the solutions for the transition.
We are working on, for example, green hydrogen,
the future of fuel cells as well as
energy storage and much more.
When it comes to the circular economy, our
technologies improve resource efficiency
as well as the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste
streams in different production processes.
Together with our partners, we are developing solution
for, for example, bio-based chemicals
Zero Liquid Discharge, as well
as recycling of plastics.
We believe that in order to solve the two
challenges – decarbonization
and the shift to the circular economy
– we need to work together.
Collaboration and strong partnerships will be
key to developing the sustainable solutions.
We have the technologies.
Let’s make it happen.
Together, we can accelerate the transition
to a more sustainable future.
